How Jackie Warner Got Her Great Abdominal Muscles or The Secret To Getting Jackie Warner’s Great Abs

Posted by Fitness Guardian on August 07, 2006

Jackie Warner shares her abdominal toning secret in an interview with the Dayton Daily News. (Subscription required)

Q: (DDN)
How do you get those killer abs?

A: (Jackie Warner)
I actually do not do crunches. This is one of my buzz phrases, ‘Crunches are a waste of time.’

Crunches are not going to get those abs. How you get those abs are actually lifting with a big muscle group such as chest, back, legs and butt. The more muscle that you have on your frame, the more fat you literally lose or shrink.

The only way to truly get shredded is to have a pretty balanced diet with a nice balance of cardio, but most importantly, weight lifting.

I don’t agree with everything Jackie Warner does. However, as reviewed here I believe she is spot on. If personal trainers spent more time on compound exercises and less on crunches, their clients would enjoy flatter stomachs and better looking physiques.

if crunches dont work why are they still the main way of abb training in all the gyms i have visited over the years are we really wasting our time with them? WHATS THE BEST WAY TO WEIGHT TRAIN HEAVY WITH SHORT REPS OR LESS WEIGHT MORE REPS TO GET THE FASTEST RESULT. IM 48 AND STRUGGLING TO MAKE A CHANGE TO MY BODY IS THIS AN AGE THING OR AM I JUST DOING IT ALL WRONG.

    4. Augusta Wed, 23 Aug 2006 01:05:54 PDT

I was interested in your clothing line and I was wondering if you have a website for “Lift”

    5. Fitness Guardian Wed, 23 Aug 2006 09:26:35 PDT

      Pepsi:

Crunches do work however they are limited in their ability and not the most efficient way to create the type of results you want. The reason why you see crunches used in so many gyms is because they are easy to teach clients, and safe for most people to do. They also isolate the rectus abdominus muscles in your stomach so you feel a burn pretty fast - which makes you believe the crunchers are helping flatten your stomach.

As a 48 year old it is critical you use exercises that give you the most bang for your buck. By that I mean exercises that recruit the most muscles through a given range of motion. What Jackie Warner is saying when she talks about training her abdominals is the use of “compound” exercises instead of isolation exercises like the crunch.

First a little background on what creates a flat stomach:
      1. Low body fat - it doesn’t matter how toned your abdominal muscles are if you have a layer of fat over them - so nutrition is important.
      2. Developing the deep abdominal muscles like the internal obliques and transverse abdominus. These muscle actually pull your stomach inward when they are strengthened. Crunch sit-ups work your rectus abdominus muscles (the six pack muscles) unfortunately these muscles develop outward when they are developed so they can actually make your stomach look bigger.

      What To Do
Jackie Warner talked about compound exercises that make your deep abdominal muscles work to stabilize your body during the exercise. Heavier weights force your transverse abdominus muscle to work the hardest.

You also get other benefits from compound exercises. They build lean muscle tissue to help increase your basal metabolic rate(so you burn more calories at rest). They have a high caloric cost during the exercise so you are burning more calories during and directly after your workout. This type of exercise become more important as you get older as it will offset a natural slowdown in metabolism.

I recommend adding Push-ups, Squats, planks, dumbbell rows and side planks to your workout. I would perform these exercises 3 times per week on non-consecutive days. Do 2 sets of each and perform them in a circuit moving from one exercise to the next with as little rest as necessary to perform the exercises in good form.

All of the exercises above will simultaneously flatten your stomach, build your metabolism and create the greatest physical return on your exercise time investment.

Wow - finally we get to see a powerful professional woman who has embraced individualism to perfection - she loves being a woman - she is not afraid to act like a man - she is reaching for the sky and at this rate will achieve every single goal! What delight in seeing what other lesbians are truly like - she embraces the beauty of womanhood - she wants children albeit her lifemate is yet to be located - and I believe she really will have those beautiful children, a wonderful home, and wife “yes wife” who will support and love her passionately - and “no” will not bite!

Jackie is all about her business and clients while in work mode - she demands professionalism from all whom represent her company adventures. Jackie takes pride in her presentation - she clearly takes excellent care of her body and mind - and what is really fantastic - is that she does this while in the wild throngs of business life is exhausting albeit profitable. That nasty bickering from some of viewers and respondents is rather sad and petty - actually it appears to be more jealously — meaning some of these “naysayers” are just miffed with small minds– too bad!

Obviously she is doing something right to be on one of Bravo’s top rated television shows - oh yes and going up against shows like Runway and Queer Eye - go girl.

Jackie’s staff a super people - a few large ego’s here and there - but overall they are a wonderful match of diversified trainers which is what people want - diversity! There are scores of professional mothers, grandmothers, teachers, nurses, doctors, attorneys, and other professional women and business owners “gay” that are slowly gaining their rights of equality due to people like Jackie and her associates who represent the gays and lesbians. This is a show about inclusion!

Sadly one area of concern - and that is only a guess because the behavior between Jackie and Mimi could have been staged which did increase ratings. However on the other hand it could have been completely true - and if so - there is a serious problem at hand. What if Jackie had just been inseminated and found out she or Mimi were pregnant - I absolutely shutter at the thought. One because Mimi would have been abusive - and the other because Jackie has admitted to being severely physically and emotionally abused. WHY? Many of her fans are asking this too - how can supergal - have let some young girl in her life for over 3 years act like that? How could Jackie pay down the seriousness of this kind of behavior as just childish - this was no child - this behavior was that of a seriously disturbed that you MUST work on Jackie - that is THE WHY - why would you allow such an ill and manipulative person abuse you - possibly damage your image and your goals - but worse injure your child or worse. If this was not manufactured for TV entertainment - not only was it a blessing that Mimi is gone - it may have saved your life Jackie! This woman would have sabotaged your business - and I asked myself what if my partner did this to me - with no camera’s rolling - what if this happened in front of my business associates, my employees, and my child or grandchildren. I recall the comment made by Jackie - she says - I was so mad I wanted to crush the phone like a lump of coal fusing it as hard as to make a diamond - that just about sums up the tremendous anger inside of the big J.

But J - if you allowed this - you really allowed anyone to mess with you like this - you too need help for something deep within you is hurting and damaged too - you need help to see why you allowed this to happen at all. Again - just imagine your baby was in the middle of this behavior? Imagine all this work to be a famous successful woman - and in the blink of an eye you allowed this same kind of abuse to rip you from your foundation. Success has been yours physically, financially, and to claim your final reward of meeting that fantastic woman and soulmate (and then having a child) you must fix this one week area in your emotional fabric. Once you conquer that internal emotional issue - the SKY will truly be yours.

You are truly a courageous and wonderful woman!

Not sure if Jackie will read this but it’s intended for her. I happened to watch some of the last episode and noticed that you are producing a line of clothing which peaked my interest. My background as marketing and business development professional is something I have been doing for more than 15 years on several different continents. My area of expertise in particular is in International business with partners in the UK, Middle East, and Asia. If you do not have anyone helping you develop business in these parts of the world, I would like to speak with you about the possibility of working with you. Your designs, style, and approach to training combined with your fashion sense will be of universal appeal. If this is something you would like to explore further please feel free to contact at my email address: FRUNE1@aol.com Also, I live in LA and noticed that your location is about 5 minutes from my home. Good luck with your line. Cheers, Frune.

Great show!! Jackie is truly inspiring as a trainer and a woman! Ditch Mimi—she is not a bad person, but Jackie and Mimi together— DRAMA, CHAOS, POISON—(of course, drama can bring in the high ratings)! Isn’t it amazing how you can have two intelligent, creative, loving people who have intense chemistry–but still can’t find balance in their relationship? I see it all of the time. Anyway, best of luck and thanks for the awesome work out tips!

    9. Nikki Fri, 25 Aug 2006 19:05:01 PDT

I would just like to say that Jackie is the best thing that has happened to reality TV!! She keeps it real! She is confident and a very strong woman. For the first time in a long time a woman on television that is happy with herself and not trying to be someone else. I am thankful that I made the choice to watch the show Workout and I hope that there is another season coming out real soon. My question and it is a big one is how do us OC people get the opportunity to meet the wonderful Jackie Warner. Does she have a time that she meets with her fans?? If so I would love to know the time and place. My email is peacene777@hotmail.com if there is any information on meeting Jackie.

I just wanted to make it known that this show with Jackie had a very positive impact on my life. I am sure like me there are many women of all races sizes and sexual orientations that are inspired greatly by Jackie.

    12. Cindy Anderson Thu, 31 Aug 2006 19:17:12 PDT

      Hi Jackie.
Enjoyed your episode on Bravo the other night, unfortunately I only caught the one episode.
Congratulations on your success and determination. You’re a strong woman and this is always great to see in a female. Speaking from a female to a female, your attitude and desire are just a couple of attractions that have helped you make you what you are today. Remember to keep your head high. If what we saw of Mimi is the real thing, she offers nothing to your life. I hope you success in finding the love of your life. Somone who can support you and your work and can make you smile.
You have not only inspired me with my health and physical appearance, but also my success as a professional female.
      Thanks Jackie.

I just want to tell you jackie ,that i love your show and thank God you are not with mimi anymore. I use to get very angry at you, because you dindn’t stop this earlier; this girl was disrespecting you, not listening to you, hanging up on you and not trusting you, oh and she bit you. I just didn’t understand that love for her ;at times i would think you just loved great sex and you didn’t have time to go out and meet other people, not to have sex but to give yourself an opportunity to enjoy life without mimi around. We all Know you loved her and i understand now,it wasn’t just sex. Jackie please don’t ever let anyone treat you like that, YOU are beautiful and smart. I love you very much and good luck with “lift” i love it.

    14. MC Thu, 31 Aug 2006 20:51:46 PDT

I love WorkOut and watching it every week made me want to be more active. The LIFT clothing line looks great too, however, when I google for “Lift clothing” I’m directed to a site with the similar angel wings but it’s all about God and Christianity. Is this the same company as Jackie’s clothing line?

    15. SUZANNE MILLER Thu, 31 Aug 2006 21:11:20 PDT

I am also interested in purchasing lift clothing. Please let me know where I can order this.

      Dear Jackie

I just wanted to express how I was inspired by your show. First the work you do with your clients is just fantastic. I saw your show for the first time two weeks ago on the Bravo. I am a prou and out 41 year old man who lives in Las Vegas. Iam energetic and full of life, not saying my life is perfect. I have talked about you among the gay community and use you as a positve role model. I think you really pull it altogether of building a great life for yourself. I would like to know if you have any kind of mail list that i can be on and if you ever come to Vegas it would be an honor to meet you. Thank You fro your time and Iwish you the best!!!!

I enjoy the work out videos on the Workout web site. Is there any way to obtain a video including all of the workouts? My daughter also was interested in a Lift workout t shirt and really liked Jackie’s clothes, jewelry as well her line of exercise clothing. Is there any way to find out more information on all of these items.

    21. Ashley Lamore Sun, 03 Sep 2006 12:43:05 PDT

      Dear Jackie,

I love your show. I hope there is another season coming out and I hope you have a DVD of the show coming out too. You are a very intelligent and strong woman. I admire you for what you have achieved in your life. I admire the fact that you take every opportunity that is available to you in life. Watching your show makes me want to start exercising and seeing you out in clubs and having fun makes me want to go out and strengthen my social skills. Socializing is a weakness of mine. I’m glad your not with Mimi anymore. You need a woman who communicates what she wants and who is more on your level of maturity. Keep up the awesome work. You are an awesome role model for all the women on this earth.

      Sincerely,
      Ashley

PS- i wrote a poem long time ago that i think you would like to hear. if you would like me to send it to you, let me know. email me at my email address: AshLamore2004@aol.com

I had a child at 16 and it was by c-section and my body popped back into place and never had any trouble until after I had a hystorectomey I have gain about 30 pound and lot of cellulite I have sleep apnea, underactrive thyroid I have been smoke free for almost 7 years happily married for 12 years Jan.3 07. I have a great life except for being tried all the time I know alot of my health promblems have alot to do with my tireness. I want to get fit but I’m always tried, but the biggest reason for this email was to ask if after you have surgury and the muscles in the adbominal has been cut can you get the flat abs again I have been told that since the muscles has been cut this is hard to get back maybe impossible, and how do I get rid of cellulite this is the worst stuff to look at ,it is nasty. and when I lose weight I don’t wont loose skin I know that working out helps but is there anything esle that I can do to help this from happen except surgury. I am 5′ 4″ ,almost 39years old , I weight around 160 pound and most of it is in my middle and thighs. If there is any help you can give me I would be greatful. If you could and have time that you could email me and help me with this problem I would be greatful. Thanks so much for you time. Lisa Horne

Hello Jackie: My son Aron is entering a university in Maryland this fall. His goal is sports management with a minor in business. Some people are saying that there are other ways to get the knowledge to be successful in this area. Aron’s goal is to some day have his own gym. I believe college is important in many ways but if there is another alternative he can look in to, I am all ears. He is very health oriented, eats right etc. and believes that fitness and eating right is extremely important in life. He is very disaplined.

I was hoping you could share some insight.

      Thank you.

      Hi,
I am in NY. I am in need of advice and assistance with losing excess body fat. I am 5′3 120 lbs. 29 years old with 2 kids. I was an award winning runner my entire school years. During this time I was barely 100lbs of muscle. I always was in love with my curves(still I had a butt and 32D), defined and toned body. After I had my children I would go down in the weight gained during pregnancy the next day. What I have noticed is that I have gained excess midsection fat. I am clueless on what to do. I have been through numerous personal trainers, pilates, yoga etc. that have ALL focused on crutches and doing stomach exercises with minimal or no results. I want results. Due to my lack of results I have lost the motivation to get back in the gym. I am willing and ready to do whatever it takes to get my perfect pre-baby body. I want to turn 30(September ‘08) looking and feeling AWESOME! PLEASE HELP!!!

What personal trainer certification is considered to be the most well
respected and will give me the greatest knowledge to get started in doing this as a career?

    52. Fitness Guardian Tue, 15 Apr 2008 18:07:38 PDT

Drew - The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification is one of the most respected and rigorous personal training certifications.

The National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and American Council on Exercise (ACE) also have solid reputations, and long track records of offering nationally recognized well respected certifications.

It’s so funny jackie is saying crunches dont work because for her CORE workout she uses them a TON! In fact the first thing you do is crunches!

Im adding it up in my head and I have already counted 4 of her exercises from the core workout that are just different versions of a crunch. Im glad I found out she doesnt even believe in what she promotes before continuing to buy her CRAP.
