Jackie Warner’s Workout Philosophy

September 6th, 2006 by Fitness Guardian

Jackie WarnerFrom an interview with After Ellen:

AE: What are your favorite workouts?
JW:
Well, I love doing legs and chest. … All big muscle groups is my favorite workout. I love to lift weights. Lifting weights is still my primary workout and my love; I miss it when I’m away from it for a couple of days.

AE: Do you ever hike any of the trails around L.A.?
JW:
I don’t hike; I bike. I mountain bike, so I’ll take the trails with the mountain bike; I’m not so much a hiker. And I love the water. I love to swim, I love to surf, I love to snorkel, I love to dive. I love anything in the ocean.

AE: What’s your personal workout philosophy?
JW:
This is my motto: Everything done in moderation is OK, so I’m not a person that tries to take your lifestyle and make it mine. And I do enjoy everything — I enjoy the things that other people like. I enjoy having drinks occasionally, but I make sure and only do it at times not of responsibility and not to excess. And I enjoy having food, and I have my cheat weekends.

Every weekend is a cheat weekend where I have one meal each day that I really love, or ice cream or candy at the movies, but Monday through Friday I am really good — very good. So you just have to know yourself and know that moderation is the key — not excess and not deprivation. It just doesn’t work.

Tales From Jackie Warner’s Skysport Spa – How personal fitness training opens doors.

August 18th, 2006 by Fitness Guardian

Brian “Peeler” got his big break and fitness made it happen. He’s one of the trainers on Bravo’s Workout – a reality (maybe) Docu-drama about Jackie Warner, her girfriend Mimi and building her Skysport spa business.

Flashback a year: Peeler, 27, is a drifter with a dream wallowing in Salisbury, NC. He wants to break into acting but can’t make it happen.

The Charlotte Observer tells the tale:

Peeler grew up in Granite Quarry, just outside Salisbury, and dropped out of East Rowan High in 10th grade. An athlete and certified trainer, he tried working in construction, as a flight attendant and as a model, without much success.

So he sold his stuff and left for California in his beat-up Isuzu, with just enough gas money to get there. He spent his last $20 on a photo to help him get cast as a movie or TV extra, he said.

The casting calls led to few roles. But Peeler made friends, and one told him to capitalize on his trainer experience instead of pining for his dream role. Peeler got a job at a gym and was recruiting customers when he heard about tryouts for the Bravo show.

Peeler said he crashed the audition for kicks. He nailed the gig by being himself. Now he’s on TV, doing what he loves and hoping for his next big break.

“I came out here with nothing, and now my life is so great,” said Peeler, soon to be married.

If you’ve watched the show just ask yourself what Peeler has that you don’t? Really nothing…

1. He had a dream.
2. He took action and risk to pursue it by changing his environment and knocking on doors. (Hey, 70% of anything is just showing up)
3. He used what he knew about (fitness) as a way to get to something he didn’t know about (Acting)

What can personal training do for you?

How Jackie Warner Got Her Great Abdominal Muscles or The Secret To Getting Jackie Warner’s Great Abs

August 7th, 2006 by Fitness Guardian

Jackie Warner shares her abdominal toning secret in an interview with the Dayton Daily News. (Subscription required)

Q: (DDN)
How do you get those killer abs?

A: (Jackie Warner)
I actually do not do crunches. This is one of my buzz phrases, ‘Crunches are a waste of time.’

Crunches are not going to get those abs. How you get those abs are actually lifting with a big muscle group such as chest, back, legs and butt. The more muscle that you have on your frame, the more fat you literally lose or shrink.

The only way to truly get shredded is to have a pretty balanced diet with a nice balance of cardio, but most importantly, weight lifting.

I don’t agree with everything Jackie Warner does. However, as reviewed here I believe she is spot on. If personal trainers spent more time on compound exercises and less on crunches, their clients would enjoy flatter stomachs and better looking physiques.

Too Intense. More on Jackie Warner, Mimi and The Trainers at Skysport Spa

August 2nd, 2006 by Fitness Guardian

The third installment of “Workout” bored me with Jackie Warner and her lesbian lover Mimi squaring off against Jackie’s mother. It also disappointed me to watch Warner taking an obese woman through a first workout so intense it made her puke.

Exercise Intensity and Results
As personal trainers we face pressure to create results for clients in a reasonable amount of time. Exercise intensity is a key tool for accelerating physical change, but it’s a double edge sword. A seasoned fitness professional is able to ebb and flow a workout to maintain an intensity level appropriate to the clients capacity moment by moment.

When working with the unconditioned (especially the first time) I would think it’s common sense to be conservative with exercise intensity. An elite trainer billing $400.00 per session like Jackie Warner should have this skill. Is her client really going to see results faster by pushing her physical limits on the first workout? Especially Tess, who clearly states her health risks. (Video clip)

How To Lose Clients
If you want to get rid of clients fast just make them throw up during a workout. Unless they are being filmed by a T.V. crew they will most likely challenge your competence as a trainer once they recover. Warner lucked out that her client stuck it out…

An Accident Waiting To Happen
If an out of shape, obese person exercises at an intensity that causes them to vomit they are putting their health, wellbeing and even life in jeopardy. They are literally an accident waiting to happen. Perhaps Ms. Warner needs to consider her application of client training progression. It will save her from needing 911 on speed-dial and keep her liability insurance low.

Jackie Warner Abdominal Workout

July 29th, 2006 by Fitness Guardian

Skysport Brian

Brian aka “Peeler” on Bravo T.V.’s “Workout” demonstrates what must be an approved Jackie Warner workout for your abs.

Peeler is billing at $135.00 per hour.  But that didn’t help him avoid the ultimate indignity as a trainer – having Jackie Warner correct him on exercise form in front of his client.  (Come on Peeler – keep that core engaged.  Pure isolation exercise is for wimps and the functionally phobic)

So now dear reader, you be the judge on his stability ball form
